“The trip to Indonesia was the first trip on my own, as well as my first trip overseas. I was curious about the Indonesian culture, and there couldn’t have been a better way to experience it then through teaching kids. It was with TFI that I had the opportunity to visit a Leprosy community for the first time, teach children from underprivileged backgrounds and help in raising awareness for a neglected disease. One of the most valuable experiences for me was the training for the leprosy campaign where we met with leprosy patients. As a student studying science in New Zealand we learn a lot about the science of diseases including leprosy, but very rarely do we get to learn about the human impact of a disease. It was admirable to see that with a shared objective people from medical professionals, lecturers, volunteers to government workers could be brought together. I think this was one of the best things I found about TFI, the interdisciplinary interaction through the volunteers and the work they do. My expectations for this exchange had been exceeded immensely by the generosity and compassion of the organisation and its people, and for that I’ll always be grateful”

My Motivation joining with TFI

I joined TFI through the AIESEC global exchange program. I was interested in doing something worthwhile and different while overseas and TFI stood out for me because they shared the same principles for education and teaching.

My Opinion about TFI

While working with TFI I found the staff and volunteers are friendly and extremely committed to their work. TFI is an organisation that does a variety of activities as well as teaching. And for an organisation that’s essentially just begun they have contributed a lot and created a platform that encourages others to follow.
